Ok, be honest. When you hear the word "carbs", what's the first food that comes to mind? For me, it's bread. And then I think about how bad it is for you (or at least how many ads, articles, etc. I've seen saying they are). Truth be told, there are healthy carbs that are not only good for you, but taste good too - MIND BLOWN!
I was super happy to come across a Shape Magazine article sharing the best carbs for weight loss. Now I know what to put on my grocery list! Here's the short version. Healthy carbs include:
- Peas (who knew they weren't just a vegetable!)
- Whole Wheat Pasta
- Acorn Squash
- Whole Wheat Bread
- Air Popped Popcorn
Don't forget, just because it's on the list doesn't mean you can forget about how you cook or use the carb. Think about adding cold peas into your salad or including with some whole wheat pasta. Find some yummy fruit to mix with your oatmeal. Swap out the potatoes for barley or quinoa for a side at dinner. Use whole wheat bread for your sandwich instead of white bread.
Take small steps towards healthier carbs and I'll bet your body will thank you :-)
